Brief -
Create an employee experience application that puts an emphasis on safety and communication. What resources can we give to those working in close contact with others during the pandemic?
Ideation -
Using Microsoft Teams as the platform for our application would allow for the integration of their suite of tools like messaging, scheduling, and email. When building out the feature set, the focus was on transparency and awareness. The goal was to not only make the tool useful but to have it be a place of reassurance for employees where they can get updates from their company on COVID .
Idea 1 -
Managing a company with thousands of retail workers is a tough job, especially during a global pandemic. To help aid managers in understanding how their team members are feeling, we decided to include a self-reported wellness check before each shift. This would act as a way for employees to take personal inventory of themselves and allow managers to shift schedules for those who aren’t feeling well. It will give the business a better understanding of how their employees mental and physical health are being impacted while working in hazardous conditions.
Idea 2 -
In addition to self-reported wellness checks, we wanted to give the employees a way to switch shifts easily with coworkers. The goal was to make employees feel more comfortable staying home when they’re not feeling well. Giving them the option to proactively ask fellow team members to take over their shift could also remove additional work for managers.
Idea 3 -
As an additional piece of reassurance and transparency, we decided to include news and company communications front-and-center so that the employees were always aware of updates. We also wanted to promote the brand beyond their response to COVID by including their social media, since the pandemic will end eventually. Promoting their socials on the home page gives the application more personality and can be used as an additional tool for communication.
